Second chance for "Last Chance" Apr 14, 2005
By Peter Schell "Yahtzee Deluxe Poker" is actually a re-release of Hasbro's "Last Chance" which came out years ago. Although "Last Chance" was a good game, it eventually wound up in the bargain bin. I guess Hasbro is hoping that it will succeed now if the words "Yahtzee" and "Poker" are pasted onto it.
Players start with a stake used to bid on the chance to roll for the bonus card. Bonus cards show a dice combination, number of rolls allowed to make it and the payoff for making the combo. After the auction to roll for the card, the other players can bet for or against the roller. The roller makes his rolls and puts matching dice onto the bonus card.
If he does not make the combo, he loses his bid to the bank and players who bet against him are paid from the bank. The matching dice stay on the card and players bid again on the chance to roll the combo (only now the combo will be easier to make since it is partially completed.)
If the roller succeeds, he gets his bid back plus the card's payoff plus bets made against him. Those who bet on his success and won are paid from the bank.
To win, a player must have the most money and at least one bonus card won. This prevents someone from simply sitting on the sidelines and betting against other players' tough rolls.
If you're desperate to win a card, you can call "Last Chance" during the auction to automatically win the bid. You must put all you money on the line and roll. If you miss, you're out of money and out of the game.
I like "Last Chance" mostly because it minimizes down time between turns. Everyone can join in the auction and the non-rollers can bet so there's something to do every turn for all players.
Oh, just have fun! Sep 04, 2010
By Lightstorm I learned Yahtzee Deluxe Poker when it was published under the name "Last Chance." I play alot of board and card games - I have wargames, Eurogames, so-called "Ameritrash" games and so many others. Frankly, I've come to the conclusion that (at least after the Europeans got going with games like Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico, Caylus, Die Macher, Carcassonne) there's a board/card game for everybody. Unfortunately the good 'ol USA is somewhat behind in this whole thing - do you know what the "Speil des Jahres" is? Ok, I digress. Last Chance/Yahtzee Deluxe Poker is a great game. Why? Because it's fun! Nothing more. If you manage to get the right group together this game is a blast! Seriously! Maybe it's a party, with or without adult beverages. Maybe it's your family (no adult beverages, please). Either way, the game is serious fun. You bid to get a chance at the jackpot, a huge gamble that might pay big-time, then your friends bet for or against you. Nobody is left out, and (like Craps), there can be alot of yelling at the table. Again, it depends on your group. Over-analysis - no! Arrogance - no! Playful - YES! Gambling... well, that's illegal in most states, but... hmmm... I guess you can apply that term, and reality. So why not have fun. Gamble on your "Last Chance!"

I have fun playing this game with my family. There is a little bit of strategy and a lot of luck to win.
