Great when they weren't broken! Apr 09, 2009

Great scissors, love the cutting blade and it is still sharp! The grip handle broke where the hard plastic handle meets the soft grip area. Now I can't find the warranty information to see if I can get it fixed. I would buy this again, but only use it for lightweight fabrics.
How to obtain lifetime warranty for your Westcott #14100 in the USA... Jan 12, 2012
By Jed Daniel Lee Back in 2008, I purchased my Westcott #14100 Ultra Smooth Titanium Bonded Straight Scissors from Costco. But that fact didn't really make a difference, because my pair broke in exactly the same place as the other reviewers are noting, "where the soft rubber meets the hard plastic." Mine broke around the thumb hole. Obviously, this is a design flaw. However, it is true that the blades are excellent and cut really well.
So, I took the time to figure out why so many reviewers were having difficulties with the lifetime warranty.
It is true that Westcott is owned by Pilot Pen Australia, an Australian company. Its website (http://www.westcottaus.com.au/about-us.php) specifically states that it "only handles Australian enquiries about the Westcott brands."
But then it continues and states, "If you are from another country, please visit www.acmeunited.com for further guidance."
Going to Acme United's website (http://acmeunited.com/Company/Contact+Us/Contact+Us/956) I found the toll-free number 800-835-2263.
I called it and was prompted to press "2" for Customer Service. Almost immediately, Connie answers the telephone. I proceed to tell her that I have the Westcott #14100. Based on her questions to me, she seemed to know that the scissors are prone to breaking.
She then took the time to iterate the company's policy for honoring lifetime warranties, which requires one to have proof of purchase (e.g., receipt). As long as it's within 30 days, I'm supposed to take it back to the retailer and I can get a full-refund or exchange. If it's more than 30 days, I am to deal with Acme United directly and send in the scissors with a proof of purchase for a free exchange.
Then she said, she was authorized to waive the requirement that I send the scissors in with a proof of purchase and that she could just send me out a new pair. How wonderful! I provided her with my name and address and now await the arrival of my Westcott #14100.
I'll update this review to indicate whether I get it or not. For now, I'm going to put my broken pair into my scrape metal pile, which I'm going to take and sell when it gets heavy enough...
2 pairs worked fine until the handles broke, stay away Dec 21, 2010
By n007 I've owned two pairs of these scissors and had the same problem as everyone here: the handles break where the soft rubber meets the hard plastic. Now they're essentially useless. I was only cutting through thin-gauge cardboard, which my Fiskars scissors eat for breakfast. I threw the receipts out a long time ago so returning/exchanging them is out of the question, but based on the other reviews here a warranty claim would be futile anyways. Stay away from Westcott, you can find much better scissors from Scotch or Fiskars at this price point.
Handle breaks easily Apr 22, 2010
By Richard Hussong The blades on these scissors are great, but the soft rubbery plastic handle, while quite comfortable in use, breaks very easily, rendering the scissors unusable. If you buy these, you'll want to keep the "lifetime warranty" information somewhere you can find it when you need it, but I wouldn't recommend buying them in the first place.
Good luck finding the "lifetime warranty." HA! Mar 12, 2010
By P. Green I bought these scissors to use with fleece. The screw stripped and they broke apart and, even with the screw replaced, can now not be used at all.
I bought them specifically because there was a warranty! When I FINALLY found the website it informed me they only deal with Australian customers!
Next time I will buy American scissors.
