Collector's Item Nov 28, 2007
By M. Snyder This is a great item for a Transformer's fan, but defiantly not for someone who intends to use this to actually play chess. Each piece has the symbol of the chess piece it represents, but it does become a bit of a hassle to constantly check which piece is what short of memorizing which transformer represents each piece.
The pieces are a sort of soft plastic material, and the whole set has a smell of spray paint. Again, great collectors item, but not recommended for those who wish to play chess with this chess set.

transformers chess set Jan 08, 2008
By L. Kaltenbach Bought for my 7-year-old chess lover as a birthday gift.
Minor annoyances:
1) The pieces look like pewter but are really plastic. However, they seem sturdy and none have broken yet.
2) I find it difficult to tell the difference between some of the pieces; there is a chess icon on the bottom of each piece for reference. I have to constantly look for the icon to tell which piece it is. On the other hand, my son knows the transformer pieces perfectly!
Overall, my son loves the transformers chess set and plays with it every day.

Great for young new learners Dec 16, 2007
By K. Hendrix I am using this game to teach my 6 year old how to play chess. I needed a set that would spark his interest in the game. He is doing well on learning how to play because he loves the Transformers and the "good guys" versus the "bad guys". After one game he was able to remember how most of the pieces move. We do have to constantly look at the symbols on the pieces to figure out what they represent because the figures that the game uses are in no way representative of the traditional pieces. However, I do think that this is still a good starter set for new young players. I figure that once my son really knows how to play, we will get him a set with traditional pieces.

gift for my brother Jan 07, 2008
By Jessica N. Norton
"Just a girl shopping"
My brother is a die hard transformer fan and he loves to play chess so i thought this would be a great gift. the only down fall i have to this product is 2 things.
1. The plastic smell that seems to linger that we hope eventually will go away
2. the peices are hard to read. we got this so he could teach his girlfriend and its difficult to tell what peice is what.
I recommend this game for more of a collecters item then one to use.

fun, but not super anything Sep 05, 2008
By S. Destfino We love chess sets at our house and I thought this would be an awesome addition. The pieces are just okay. They're decently durable unless you have smaller children visit and then I wouldn't leave the set out. Also, the pieces aren't real easy to differentiate, so only the super geeks (which we have some in our family) will be able to really play without inspecting the pieces before their move. Still, the set looks pretty cool on display. :)
