Really love it and so glad I got it. Mar 24, 2009
By D. Yam I've worked with those really old, big, and clunky sewing machines when I was about 8-13 years old under my mom's and grandmother's supervision. Now I'm 25, and recently decided I needed a sewing machine of my own. I don't have room for any big machine similar to what I was used to, so I thought a small portable one should do the job for me.
I got a really cheap $30 set from Walgreens, and that stopped working 5 minutes out of the box. Figured I ought to be a little more serious, so I opted to spend more than I really wanted to get this. I am very glad that I did.
I just got it today. The manual is super easy to understand. I'd never threaded a machine on my own before, but there is even a numbered guide right on the machine to tell you where the top thread goes. The guide on the machine plus the very simple instructions in the manual made threading the thing a breeze.
With the foot pedal, it's fairly easy to control the speed. I've read some reviews on similar machines (a Brother one, in particular, that I was also looking at) with complaints of it going from 0 to 100 with nothing in between. Not so with this one.
It's really quiet. It's a little awkward having the top spool horizontal, but it works. It's a little heavier than I expected, but that makes it more sturdy. It has a little storage compartment that's really convenient and a nice way to keep everything in one place. It has a little lever for reverse sewing, which I really like. Comes with a neat little cover that has a slot at the top for the carrying handle.
Overall, it is a very straightforward machine that works great, is simple to use and easy to understand.

Serviceable, useful sewing machine May 27, 2009
By Meridee F. Stclaire This is a good all-purpose, low-cost household machine, although as a long-time Singer fan and former Singer sewing machine dealer, I don't care for the vertical bobbin design. It is compact and comes with it's own sturdy, attractive cover that allows you to carry the machine by its handle, so don't bother ordering a hard-shell case for it. The free-arm and accessory compartment designs are carefully thought out.

Singer Sewing Machine Apr 08, 2009
By Sweet Sue Love this little machine. Easy to thread. Runs smoothly. Helpful note: When you put in the bobbin, make it sorta "click" to stay in place.

Fair for the price Aug 19, 2009
By Allison I purchased this a few months ago and been using it regularly. Occasionaly I get problems like the needle getting stuck or thread getting all messed under the fabric, sometimes frustrating. This sewing machine is for basic sewing only, it gives you problems once your fabric is thicker than one fold of it. I don't think this model will provide long-term service.

Good value Aug 03, 2009
By DHO This sewing machine is probably the best value for under $100.
It is a very basic sewing machine, but it offers much more quality than similar placed brands. I am a doctor and I am modifying my white coat, so I wanted an intermediate level machine that will stand up to heavy fabrics. So far, it's performance is solid and is very easy to use.
Pro: Value, very easy to use, good for into-intermediate users, good performance on heavy materials, comes with a soft case (hard case unneeded)
Cons: I don't like the thread spool holder. I prefer the option to make the stand upright, so it is easier to tension. The foot has trouble advancing over bumps > 0.5cm; this can be problematic sewing over existing hems. When it gets stuck, the thread often breaks, so you have to remove the stitch and start over.
I recommend it to anybody not looking to embroider
