5easy feeding!  Feb 07, 2008
By Rubydou "Rubydou"
wonderful product that is soooo sturdy and well thought out! Collapses virtually flat to store if desired. Perches for cardinals and mesh for clingers. Holds a lot of seed so no frequent refills and ventilation for seed...
no moldy mess! Should last a lifetime! Squirrels are VERY challenged by this...depending on how it is hung the birds are going to be top dog!!!

5Don't listen to the negative reviews  Feb 01, 2011
By Ronin F. Costa "chimpevil"
I've had many, many feeders of all types over the years, but this is one of the best I've owned. It is sturdy, good-looking and well made, with no extraneous parts to fall off or wear away. Also, no matter what one reviewer said, it does keep squirrels off, at least in my neck of the woods, and more importantly, pigeons, the peskiest pests I deal with, cannot get on this feeder, so I say hallelulah to that! But does it get ruined in the rain, as one writer said? That's not been my experience. Within days of my hanging it, we had an all-day drenching rain, and the seed was completely dry inside when I checked it in the evening, and the feeder is fairly exposed where I have it. Well, OK, but it's SO hard to fill, isn't it? Please, people. You just move one little hook to open the lid, then hold it up with one hand and fill with the other. So very easy my 5-year-old nephew has filled it for me by himself several times. Bottom line, this is one sweet feeder that attracts the perfect mix of birds--colorful cardinals and jays love it, and the little birds have room at the top when the bigger birds are on it. I'm as happy with this feeder as any I've ever owned.

1great squirrel and grackle feeder  Jul 26, 2009
By Steve Kowal
This feeder has unlimited hand/foot holds for squirrels. They have no trouble working the seeds out of the mesh. I have had mine loaded with sunflower, and sunflower/safflower mix. Either way, the squirrels get as much sunflower seed as they like. And when a squirrel is not on the feeder, the feeder is large and sturdy enough to hold six grackles, even though the tray and perch locations are really incorrectly sized for these birds, they just flap their wings to stay on. My old tube feeder brought a wide variety of song birds. Now it's just squirrels and grackles.

1Flawed Design -- Birds Avoid This Feeder  Dec 09, 2007
By Goldie
This feeder has a number of design issues that make it difficult to use. And, over time, the birds have stopped using this feeder.

In the beginning, the birds really liked this feeder, and they were all over it. Perching birds, clinging birds all seem satisfied. But something has happened over time, and it appears that the seed-delivery is no longer working well. I don't know whether it's because the seed is exposed to the rain and the quality deteriorates, or if the weight of the seed has caused the links to close up making the seed difficult to extract, but the birds have stopped using this feeder.

In addition, filling the feeder is a real challenge.

1. It does not stand on its own. If you put it on the floor to fill, it collapses, since the chain links are loose and there's no structure to hold the feeder in full open position. This is especially problematic if there's some seed remaining in the feeder. To fill it, you have to hold the handle in one hand while holding the cover open with the same hand (a bit tricky) and then fill with the other. You can't put the feeder down on the floor or it collapses sprinkling seed all over the place. To combat this, I rigged up an S-hook and hung the feeder from it. That way, I could hold the cover open with one hand, and fill with the other.

2. When you're filling it, the seeds pour out of the chain links. Much seed is wasted on the floor. You have to fill it with the feeder sitting in the seed bag so the seeds fall back into the bag.

In all, I would not recommend this chain-link style feeder.

4Great bird feeder!  Oct 02, 2010
By anthonyc
This feeder is great for all different kinds of birds! Just the second day I put this feeder up, many species of birds came to it, including chickadees, nuthacthes, cardinals, blue jays, house finches, and goldfinches.

the only problem about this feeder is that the tray at the bottom of the feeder dosen't fully drain out all of the water as soon as it rains on the feeder, so it makes the seeds damp.

Overall this feeder will make a great addition to any backyard!!
