Great ADULT model! Dec 05, 2009
By Mike Powell I was amazed to see the negative reviews for the Disney monorail, however, I do agree that the current version is not necessarily suitable for small children as parts are easy to take off and the figures are very small. But for ADULT collectors, this is a wonderful model and older versions and accessories have become VERY collectable - I've seen the original Epcot Spaceship Earth (the one where the monorail can pass right through) selling for $300 and the Polynesian Resort for around $500. Monorail Purple is rare, so fetches good three-figures sums also.
As for the person who said the box shows six cars, but the set contains five ... the six car picture is a photograph of the real thing; however, the box has windows and you can clearly see that the model has five units - so unless you bought it with your eyes closed, you can hardly complain!
If you are going to set this up, you do need quite a lot of space - 61" x 49" needed for the basic set.
I have four sets - Black, Red, Gold and Blue (Blue being one of the new versions with opening doors) - and additional track. I know a lot of people run these as part of their Christmas displays and videos of some layouts can be seen on You Tube.
So, in summary, a great toy for older children (think ages 11 and above, rather than the 4+ suggested on the box) and a great collector item for adult Disney or rail fans.

Really bad purchase Jul 09, 2009
By Jodi Brown Bought this in Disney World while on vacation recently. Right away, I could tell it was junk even thought it cost $70. The monorail doors fall off constantly. The characters are so small that it is hard for kids and even me to try and sit them in the cars. Plus after one week, the monorail car stopped working so it doesn't go around the track anymore on its own. I tried changing the batteries but that did not fix the problem. Really wish I could get my money back on this one.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PIECE OF JUNK May 12, 2009
By L. Richardson We purchased the monorail set and matching Contemporary Resort for our 5-yr old. The track is fine but the monorail cars and Contemporary building are terrible. They fall apart constantly. The "working doors" on the monorail fall off the minute you touch them. The Contemporary building consists of nine pieces that break apart at the slightest touch. Unfortunately, the pieces do not go back together so easily. It takes two people to put the Contemporary together because as soon as you snap on one wall another one falls off. Without a doubt the worst toy we have ever purchased.

Wish I'd read the other reviews first Oct 19, 2009
By B. Heller Completely agree with the other reviews. My son saw this at a friend's house and became desperate for it. It became his "big" birthday present. It is utter junk. Day one and I've had to put the doors back on 2 dozen times. I hate it! Even if it had cost $20 it would've been too much. Horrible product. Also - shows six cars on the front of the package and there are only five inside.
