Plant grow light + moonlight simul. + power head + air bubbler + quiet Sep 24, 2007

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3HV5FA6YGKX1Q I've been skeptical to try new stuff for my aquarium but I am glad I tried the Ario 2 color blue. Pros: +The fish love it because it serves as a night light for them when the tank's white lights are turned off. +I leave it on all day/night because it uses a miserly total of 4W of power and the LED light bulbs will last beyond 10 yrs as all LED's today are very efficient and have extremely long lives. +Blue simulates the moon's color as well as having the highest energy intensity for maximum plant growth. My plants continue to grow towards this light at such an accelerated rate, even my slow growing Anubias surprise me as the closest leaf shifted towards the source at an astounding 1 cm over one day. Neighboring Java Moss and ferns are almost out of control in growth. +It has a small sponge filter inside but the intended purpose is to keep small fish and crud out. I do the real biological filtering with an external power filter (Eheim ECCO canister). +Bubbles are really fine when they come out of the propellers which drive water and air out the sides. The bubbles released reflect the LED light back in every viewing direction. +Well built for small fish and completely waterproof. I bury the pump's large plastic base and leave the light and bubble motor above gravel level. +Can't go wrong with LED technology and a quiet 4W propeller pump. +It seems to encourage bacterial activity & break down of fish waste by providing more oxygen, and simulates a vortex with bottom to up water circulation and recycling. +Can adjust rate of air bubble volume injection. Cons: -The cylinder light beam component/top portion is friction held down to base. I hope any new models that come out will have light beam mechanically secured (clamp or screw type device). I can picture a large fish slapping it's tail against the light and knocking the flimsy light tower off the base. -Light and filter cannot be turned off independent of the other. -Cannot adjust flow rate of water. I recommend it only for 10+ gallon tanks because any tank smaller will cause fish to struggle against the strong water currents. -Tiny sponge filter clogs up fast. I've been cleaning it everyday. Also, very hard to take apart and clean the motor casing. I jeri rigged its filter by wrapping with a larger flat/sheet cotton filter media reinforced with a platic mesh screen/sleeve bought from art store and cut/made myself, hoping a prefilter will cut down on the frequency that I have to clean it. Now it looks big and hideous so I hid it behind some shells. Overall, that's why it's 3-4 stars.

Excellent pump Sep 24, 2009

I use this in a garden fish bowel I made from cement. It works excellent this past 6 months with a lot of airation. I need to clean it once a week as the algae builds up in it quickly. The strong water movement it generates actually causes the water to circle, when it is not pointing upright. I like this way better as it simulates a moving current. I am thinking of getting a back-up unit. I grade it a A+.
