4Nice toy for the price  Jun 18, 2007
By webgrunt
Helicopters are a lot more complicated than a basic airplane. Because of the complexity in a helicopter that has normal maneuverability, it would not be possible to build a toy helicopter anywhere near this cheaply without sacrificing something. This unit (and others in its price range) have no ability to tilt the flight rotor assembly.

What this means in plain English is that you can go up or down and rotate, but you can't travel in any particular direction unless you use the stickers included to change the center of gravity on the little chopper, which will make it always travel at the same speed, with you controlling (with some practice) the direction of that travel. So, you can't go from horizontal movement to stationary (hovering) or back unless you land the 'copter and make an adjustment.

I had never flown a remote control helicopter before (let alone a real one) but I was able to take off and hover on the first try. It's that easy! It takes a little practice to smooth out the flight (at first you tend to go up and down a lot before you can hold it at one level) so basically, after the first charge (which took 20 minutes) I was having fun with it. The cats weren't sure whether to be curious or afraid of it, the looks they gave it were hilarious.

As others have stated, this item is identical to the more expensive ones such as the "Air Hogs" version. Get this one because it's cheaper.

5cant beat it to death  Dec 06, 2006
By T. Ryan
Its hard to control But helicopters are not that stable anyway. If you dont know what to expect you will never figure it out. I was flying around my living room within the first charge it wants to spin eratically but you can add more power & move the sticks to straighten it out. I believe there are many models of this heli but they're all alike buy the cheapest one. You will have a blast after your first hover. Oh yeah Ive dropped it straight down from 6 foot not a scratch.

1It's a complete waste of money and time!!  Oct 04, 2007
By Jenny Nelson
My 9 year old son saved up for over two months to buy this helicopter and it broke the very first time he ever flew it. He played with it a total of 1 minute before it broke when it landed. It is extreemly hard to control and it only goes one speed, very very fast. So when he tried to land it the first time, it hit the ground hard and broke. It is poorly made and very flimsy. We also had to charge the battery for 4 hours before he could even use it. So after waiting excitedly for over four hours, it broke within seconds.

5Great for grown-up "kids"  Jan 19, 2008
By Clark Kent
I was impressed... it works quite well. Yes it does have limitations in manueverability. The problems I had were learning how to control the right speed so it would hover, but with practice I did eventually. The controls are a bit sensitive and you need to learn to not over react... because the device not heavy enought. It needs a little bit of weight to slow it down just a little, but you can experiment with a variety of techniques. But for the price ... wow... it is a great addition to your remote control toys. I don't know that you could do better even with a more expensive unit. The older you are, the more fun you'll have!

2A lot of fun while it worked  Jul 08, 2008
By Kevin Wang
It took a little practice to learn to fly this, but it was definitely fun. I could make it do clockwise loops around the room, or hover mostly in place while spinning counter-clockwise. I crashed it many times, none of which caused any obvious physical damage. However, on the third day after I bought it, the tail rotor stopped spinning (in mid-flight!) and it's not worked since. It comes with a replacement tail rotor, but that doesn't solve anything as it's the tail rotor motor that no longer works.
I really enjoyed it while it lasted (I loved watching the fish lunge at it every time it flew by the aquarium, as if it were a big yellow bug) but it's pretty disappointing to be broken so soon.

If yours doesn't break, a few things to keep in mind:

The rotors pick up hair from the floor when the copter crashes, which will have adverse effects on the flight characteristics. I spent a lot of time picking hair out with tweezers.

The easiest way to launch the copter is by holding it in your hand, not from a flat surface like the directions say.

If your copter just goes up and down, add one of the provided stickers to the front; that'll change the balance and it'll move forward.

The control unit has to be turned on to charge the copter; it doesn't say this anywhere in the instructions.

The copter will, in some instances, completely ignore the controls, even if there's a clear line-of-sight to the controller. I chalk this up to cheap mass-production of a fairly complex toy.
