Description:

This charming birdhouse "condo" is crafted in Sisters, Oregon using antique wood that has been reclaimed (recycled) from dismantled barns. Barn wood has a distinctive look and feel due to many years of exposure to the elements. Characteristics of recycled barn wood products will often include any or all of the following: cracks, splits, nail holes, peg holes, bolt holes, warping, insect damage, fungal damage, wood rot, wear marks, water marks, heavy graining, gouges, knots, etc. These are not defects, but rather they add to the rustic charm of each unique piece. Size: 8" wide x 8" deep x 13" tall.

Decorative, NOT a functional birdhouse Apr 12, 2011

This birdhouse is for decoration only (though the holes are 1 1/4" in diameter, large enough for wrens, bluebirds and chickadees, etc.) - it has no way to clean it out, the roof would likely leak, and the (functionally unnecessary) perches are stapled in with the sharp ends sticking into the house. That being said, since the holes were a good size, I ripped off the perches, sawed off the bottom, reattached a hinged piece of wood (to allow for cleanouts), cleaned up any exposed staples, and shingled the roofs, and attached it to a post in my yard ready for birds, should they find it acceptable. If anything roosts in there, I will post an update - the cavities may just be a tad too small, but I thought instead of paying for shipping to return it to the sender, I might try to make it work. It does look nice if you're just going for a decorative item.
