Great Uppers, Soles Wear Out Oct 31, 2011
By Daniel Bargen I wore these boots for years on hiking trips and for general outdoor usage. I'd say I easily had 1K+ miles on them. These are conditions including, rocky trails, muddy muck, straight rock surfaces, forest conditions, through streams, cold weather (ice/snow/below 0 temps) and hot weather and surfaces. When not in use they normally stayed in a closet away from temperature and moisture extremes.
The Gortex held up very well the whole time. I never had a leak issue, even when standing in moving water. With an addition of Superfeet inserts from day one, these boots were tied for the most comfortable footwear I own.
My only problems occurred as the soles aged. The ball of the sole, which got the most abuse, was wearing through and starting to crumble. The soles had also started to pul away at the arch and tip of the toe where the rubber bordered the uppers. After doing some minor excavation work, and leaving some mud/clay on the soles for a day, I came back the next day to find the soil had dried and peeled the sole away from the uppers. It must have had something to do with the way it clung to the sole and not the uppers. This problem continued to progress, even after cleaning the boots, until a week later, I found myself with one sole flapping freely from arch to heel as I walked. With the wear on the soles, it's not worth the couple of dollars to try and even temporarily epoxy it back on.
I found these boots to be very comfortable and the uppers to wear very well. A cut occurred in one upper near the end of their life, but they still wore well past that event. The soles did not fair so well.
These were an earlier production of this same model, so take my anecdotes with a grain of salt. I would recommend this brand to anyone looking for functional hiking boots. I guess you get what you pay for, though, when it comes to longevity. I'll be looking for a better model from Asolo with my next pair.

Great boot with soles that wear to quickly!!! Oct 17, 2011

This is possibly the most confortable boot I have ever worn. I loved the boots right out of the box. I put a lot of miles on with limited break in. Unfortunately the soles wear down way too quickly. The uppers were in excellent condition when the soles wore through. You can supposedly get a new Vibram sole but cobblers are hard to find out in suburbia so I wore them as lawn mowing shoes until the stitching finally wore through. With a hardcore Vibram sole out of the box these boots would be nearly perfect.
I would still recommend them for someone taking a good hiking trip on short notice with no time for boot break-in. These shoes would work great for this type of trip as the sole wear would not be a deal breaker.

Soles are a problem Jul 20, 2011
By Treadbear I chose these boots after two previous attempts with other brands. I actually LOVE them - as they are super comfy and light weight, with good foot support (don't forget to add some Superfeet inside). My only problem is that while the uppers are in great shape and have worn well - the soles have not. Both are worn through at this point and when I took them to a shoe repair shop - it was no dice. They make shoes this way on purpose - planned obsolescence. They are unable to resole this type of boot. So I guess for the price - I can't complain too much - but if like some on here, you are planning a long hike on rough surfaces - don't get these.
If you're just a casual hiker though - they're great. I walk 2-3 miles daily, and they just aren't keeping up.

Shoe Failed On Camino Feb 09, 2011

I bought these boots to walk the Camino de Santiago (500 miles) across Spain in the spring of 2009. After about 300 miles one of the soles separated from the last. Fortunately, it was a dry day and even more luckily I soon came across a truck stop which had in stock both Crazy Glue and duct tape. The repair worked and I got to Santiago with no further problems. Obviously, the waterproofing was compromised by this failure.
The problem is that I'm about to walk the Camino 1000 miles from Le Puy-en-Velay to Santiago/Finisterra and I don't dare count on the repaired boots which failed me the first time----so I have to go out and spend upwards of $200 for a new pair of boots.

Well constructed boot, very comfortable, looks good and durable Gore-Tex liner. I ordered these just two days ago and already received them. This is my second pair.
My first pair has lasted five years, and they've seen all types of weather and terrain on more than one continent.
They have great grip and traction on the trail but due to the soft rubber, I don't recommend them for regular use on concrete. Very true to size fit, so if you are a borderline D width, I advise going up a width.
