Sleek looking T5 fixture Jan 05, 2009
By Ryan Galvan The biggest thing I want to point out is that the picture is very misleading. The picture shows individual switches for bulbs, for this particular fixture does not have, please be aware.
+ The price is amazing for this great fixture including two bulbs
+ Very slim and sleek, much smaller than the picture and about an inch tall and two inches wide
+ It comes with both bulbs!
+ Runs very cool
+ Name brand
+ Extensions are nice for an open top setup
- Only has one switch for the entire fixture
- Acrylic instead of glass lens, which falls out easily
- Extensions fall out easily with nothing to hold them in, but are easily removed
I have not used this over coral yet, it is sitting atop a spare 20 gal that I should have set up soon, updates pending. This is an excellent light I would recommend for any shallow reef or FOWLR tank setup.
Very Nice Sep 17, 2011
By Master Fowl Its very nice. Black fixture. There is an acrylic cover that can slide out very easily but is fixed with a little tape to opening where it slides out to the side. It is very bright. It can light my 24" deep aquarium. There are hooks on each side to hook onto the aquarium glass(does't seem necessary though as you will need to place in on a cover on the aquarium) I will be using this over coralline algae for now(corals in the future). It seems pretty good as it's easy to find replacement bulbs over the internet. It includes a blue actinic and a white florescent bulb. I will edit this review in the future to show its performace.
still going May 30, 2011
By gb I've used this fixture for over a year now and it's still working perfectly. I've used all temps of bulbs, the stock actinic and white, some 10,000k's and 3000k's. Both bulbs are on one circuit so there's only one on/off switch. I believe two bulbs have to be in it to properly complete the circuit. I use it on my open-top aquarium where I've sit it on a 5" wide glass panel with the plastic bulb guard and wire brackets removed. The manufacture label can be easily removed if you want a cleaner look and the price is right.
