Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1XZ43PZGAIHWY I set up the Aqua Clear in water that was yellow and pretty cloudy. The Aqua Clear clear cleaned the water and diminished the yellow tint within a day.
I was being told by my local pet store that the Fluval filter was the best filter for my turtles. Even with cloudy yellow water, my local pet store said it was natural and fine.
It wasn't so fine with me. I could hardly see my turtles and had to change the filters every two weeks and use a turkey baster every day to pick up larger debris which that filter couldn't handle.
Now I have very happy turtles that are enjoying the water more and getting out of their shells, I'll let my turtles speak for themselves.

I received this filter when I acquired a 125 gallon freshwater tank. They had two on the system.
I purchased new carbon bags and rinsed the filters and sponges and it is the BEST filter I have ever had, and that's a lot of filters.
I usually use biowheels, which are wonderful but they are splashy and loud. The Aquaclears are not loud plus have an adjustable flow which is a HUGE benefit alone.
They are perfect as you can add media just like you could a canister filter, as it has a media basket instead of cartridges. It's really brilliant!
I will certainly be purchasing the smaller versions for my future tanks, the rest are set up w/ biowheels. My hospital tank will be sporting a new aquaclear very soon as it's in the bedroom and these filters are very quiet.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

i've had this filter for over 5 years now, running continuously obviously (minus the times i've cleaned it). it has not once broken down, or gotten clogged. the water is always very clear, and i do not have to clean the filter or water very often (i only do it every couple of months).

This filter works. It's very powerful and moves A LOT of water. Great biological filtration with the sponge that lasts forever. Easy to manage. It's NOT super quiet. Probably because it's for a 100 gallon tank. My Aqua-tech is super quiet, but it doesn't have a fraction of power this one has. You are going to hear a whirrrr but ALL POWERFUL PUMPS ARE LIKE THAT--this one however, IS quieter than Penguin biowheels. I don't like bio wheels because the bacteria die when they dry out which is easy to do especially when cleaning. Penguins are very hard to clean. These Aqua Clears are simple as pie to clean.
When my fish tank is fully established with plenty of bacteria I do not use charcoal as a rule. I only use charcoal (1) When the fish tank is new; (2) I had to terminally clean the tank (change all the water and really clean it; (3) deliberately remove chemicals.
Once the tank is fully established I use those easy to cut flosses that can fit into any pump and remove the charcoal. That's just my choice. And of course I keep a close eye on the water (check ammonia, etc)

This filter is a wonderful 3 part filter. You get the mechanical, biological and chemical filtering all in one easy to use, easy to maintain filter. It does take about 4" clearance from back of tank to wall. So measure! I like the big sponge and the idea that the water has to start at the bottom and then go up through all the media, before going into the tank. Also, for leveling, you can use a piece of 3/4 inch tubing between the body of the filter and the aquarium, to make it level. I found that this works very well and stays in place. Just a helpful hint! LOL When I get the courage to move my 55g tank away from the wall a little more, I am going to get another 110.
