With normal cutting pressure all cuts will heal themselves and disappear leaving a smooth working surface. Printed grid pattern has guide lines for 45 and 60 degree angles as well as 1/2" grid lines. Excellent mat, and a great range of sizes Aug 14, 2010

When setting up my sewing room and cutting table, I wanted a larger mat than you can usually find. None of the stores sold self-healing mats in sizes larger than 24x36. I wanted 36x48, and I wanted it to be self-healing. I sew apparel as well as make quilts, and I wanted a mat that was large enough to allow me to cut out patterns with my rotary cutter, not just cut pieces for quiltmaking. After much searching I found the Alvin brand online and took a chance by ordering it.

I am extremely happy with the quality and performance my mat. It is a little heavier and thicker than the other brands I've seen -- Olfa, Fiskars, and Dritz/Omnigrid, but that is all to the good. I highly recommend this mat to anyone who is looking for a good mat, and especially to those who want one that is larger than the standard.

I am very pleased with this product. I had never heard of Alvin, so I didn't know what to expect. I previously had an Olfa mat that was smaller. This mat is thick and heavy and fits perfectly on my kitchen table. Also, it doesn't have an unpleasant smell like some of the other cutting mats out there. The mat is small enough so it doesn't take up too much room but large enough that it can handle most clothing and medium-sized home decorating projects. The price is right for this high-quality product.

BUT I TOOK A CHANCE....IT IS A VERY NICE MAT. I AM GLAD

I ORDERED IT. IT IS A THICKER, STURDIER, MAT THAN THE

BRAND I HAD BEFORE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BRAND.

So far, I like this cutting mat. It has plenty of guide lines on it. I used my last mat for 20 years, so I am expecting the same performance from this one, I'll get back to you in 20 years.

Being new to quilting I was unsure of what cutting board I needed. I ordered this one and I am completly happy with it. I have used it several times and see no issues at all. For the price you cannot beat it!
