Please don't believe for a second that this is real solid wood.. It's not it's a very very thin veneer walnut that is paper thin. I took this board and lightly sanded it to inlay into a game table I built. Guess what? The chess squares totally disappeared to a cheap particle board base. Do not, Do not buy this chinese piece of junk. Buy solid wood....THIS IS NOT!!!!

My wife bought me a good set of wooden chess pieces for my birthday and I wanted a
matching chess board. I bought this because I liked its color, price and size.
The quality is far better than I expected. It's made of solid wood with inlaid squares. The surface is almost perfectly smooth. It looks pretty sturdy and durable. Although the price is cheap, it doesn't look cheap at all. I highly recommend it.

I have always wanted a real wooden board to play chess on and this board has given me that.
It is rich and attractive and something I plan on having with me for a very long time.
My wooden pieces that I bought in Germany almost 50 years ago feel at home on this board

I received this board today and feel a little bid sad.
1. the board is thinner than expected.
2. one corner was damaged during shipping, improper packing, the box is too big and only one side gets protected and damage happened to one corner and one side. This made me sad. want to return it. :-(

Normally, when I buy a product, the first thing I look at is the photo of the item I am interested in buying. When I saw this item, I thought it would be perfect because we're a family of beginner chess players and this seemed like the kind of thing to get us started. The picture showed that the board folded in half and inside were the stored chess pieces. However, when it came, it was just a big board that didn't have pieces and didn't fold up and close. Now I have to buy the pieces. I didn't think that buying a chess game was as involved as, say, buying a computer. So many more details in buying a computer. This should have been simple. The picture made it look very appealing. I had no reason to think it didn't come as pictured. So, if you want this item, be sure to find the chess pieces to go along with it and be prepared to spend more money than you anticipated. Am I angry? Yeah - a bit. I don't like when things are misrepresented.
